Wednesday, November 13, 2024Comparing Estimates for Flood Cleanup
By the RestorationSOS Educational Staff
Floods are the most common natural disasters in the United States, occurring year round, for any number of reasons, in every state in the union. They range from floods that may develop over a period of several days to flash floods that form rapidly and offer little or no advanced warning. The damage left behind can often resemble a war zone, with property owners left overwhelmed and traumatized in the aftermath.
Where to Begin
The process of flood cleanup can be a daunting one. With so much damage, where can you hope to begin? The scope of the flood cleanup process is such that only professional restoration companies should be hired to do the work. The problem is determining exactly who to hire.
In many cases where flooding has occurred it may be preferable to go with whatever company you can reach first, since waiting lists will no doubt be long and you need to have your property stabilized as soon as possible. However, if the situation at hand is not an emergency, it is advisable not to react so quickly or in such a rash manner.
How to Choose a Restoration Company
RestorationSOS® recommends securing at least 3 estimates from different service providers before making any final determination on who to hire to work on your property and compare those estimates closely before signing any work orders. The reasons for doing so are numerous, but include the following:
Comparison of Prices. Of course, price is a factor. You don't want to pay too much, but then the adage "you get what you pay for" applies very well here. Beware of anyone who tries to sell you a service based on price alone.
Comparison of Services. Not every company is qualified to do the work you need done when it comes to flood cleanup. Make sure the company you hire offers the widest range of restoration services and is certified in all areas by a restoration industry authority.
Look at Variables. Namely, availability and reputation within the community. Sure one company might save you some money, but if they can't come out for a week, then you will end up paying that difference in costs anyway. Pay a little more for someone who offers same day emergency service and can go to work for you promptly. Look for specials offered by a given company that may help offset deductibles and save you money in the process.
RestorationSOS® offers up to three free estimates from our network of contractors, all fully licensed, certified, and prescreened in all areas of flood cleanup and other restoration services. We offer 24/7 service coast to coast and are prepared to handle even the largest water damage restoration needs.
